Captain Sam
Now Sam Warburton he played for Wales,
In two thousand and eleven,
He was the captain of the team,
And he wore the number seven,
He led by his example,
His play was quite sensational,
He tackled hard, fought for each yard,
True captain inspirational,
Wales had reached the World Cup "semis,"
Where we'd be playing France,
And all the experts were agreed,
Wales really stood a chance---
Of getting to the final,
We might even win the cup,
With Captain Sam to lead us-
Things were really looking up,
The match started quite brightly,
And Wales took an early lead,
Then the "ref" made a decision,
That would make all Welsh hearts bleed,
With De Clerc, French winger toppled,
Courtesy of our Sam,
"Spear tackle," said the referee,
"I'm booking you young man,"
As Sam prepared to leave the field,
For ten minutes in the "bin,"
His look was one of disbelief,
That tackle was no sin,
Sam turned then in amazement,
He could only shake his head,
For Monsieur Roland brandished,
Not a yellow card-but red,
The anguish Sam was feeling,
Was shared by the whole Welsh nation,
For Sam's World Cup was over now,
He was "off" for the duration,
The fourteen men he'd left behind,
We're hero's one and all,
They were playing for Sam Warburton,
And they fought for every ball,
They won the hearts of every one,
Who saw the game that day,
They played a brand of rugby,
Only the Welsh can play,
Sadly at the final whistle,
Came the end of Wales' dream,
Defeated by a single point,
Though we were the better team,
But Wales won the admiration,
Of everyone "down under,"
What if we'd played with fifteen men?
Alas--- we can only wonder!
